Rural background

If you have resided in an Australian rural area, MM 2 to MM 7 according to the Modified Monash Model, for 5 years consecutively or 10 years cumulatively, you may be eligible for consideration in rural schemes and sub-quotas.

To be considered for rural schemes and sub-quotas, you will need to complete the Rural background question in the Application Form and submit supporting documentation.  Please see the Medicine Admissions Guide and the Rural background document guide for criteria and documentation requirements.

If you have lived at multiple rural addresses, these can be used together to meet the rurality criteria. Your evidence across the multiple addresses still needs to meet the requirement of 5 years consecutive, or 10 years cumulative, rural residence.

Please see the Medicine Admissions Guide and the Rural background document guide for criteria and documentation requirements and ensure you can meet these.

The same documentation can be resubmitted in future years provided it still meets the documentation requirements in the year of application as specified in the Medicine Admissions Guide. Please note, requirements may change year-to-year. Please view the Medicine Admissions Guide before submitting your application to confirm that you have met the rural scheme and sub-quota requirements.
