About Us
Welcome to GEMSAS.
GEMSAS (Graduate Entry Medical School Admissions System) is a centralised application service for graduate-entry medicine in Australia.
It is delivered by GEMPASS Australia Ltd (on behalf of participating medical schools) and the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).
How GEMSAS works
Each year, domestic applicants submit a single application through GEMSAS and can be considered for up to six graduate-entry medicine courses across participating Australian medical schools.
As a part of the application, you:
- Select and rank your preferred medical schools
- Indicate the types of places you are willing to accept (e.g. Commonwealth Supported Place; Bonded Medical Place; full-fee)
What GEMSAS does
GEMSAS manages key parts of the admissions process. For eligible applicants, it:
- Confirms that minimum eligibility requirements are met
- Calculates a GPA for each preferred course
- Ranks applicants according to each medical school's selection criteria
Selection criteria vary by school and may include:
- GAMSAT results
- GPA
- Interview performance
- Additional criteria such as adjustments or bonuses
Medical schools use these rankings to invite applicants to interview and make course offers.
Interviews and offers
You must be invited to interview to be considered for a course offer.
Applicants attend one interview only. Your interview score is standardised and may be used by other medical schools on your preference list.
