GAMSAT

What is the GAMSAT?

GAMSAT is a computer-based assessment developed by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) with GEMPASS Australia Limited. All applicants for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) and other domestic places at graduate entry Medical Schools must have a current GAMSAT score to be considered for entry into postgraduate medicine courses.*

*Some Entry Schemes and Pathways do not include a GAMSAT score as an entry requirement. Please view the individual Medical School sections of this Medical School Admissions Guide to confirm if you need to complete the GAMSAT.

Which GAMSAT results can be used to support a GEMSAS application?

GAMSAT results are valid for 4 years. GAMSAT results obtained from different sittings are directly comparable and can be used when applying to universities for up to four consecutive years in Australia. For example, if you sit the GAMSAT in September 2025, you may use these results to support applications that are submitted in 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029 for graduate entry courses commencing in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 respectively. Further information regarding currency of results can be viewed on the GAMSAT Results webpage.

GAMSAT sittings are held in March and September. View the table below to confirm which GAMSAT results can be used for the GEMSAS applications for GEMSAS medicine courses that start in 2027 and 2028.

Please note, results from the September sitting in the year of GEMSAS application cannot be used for that intake.

Am I eligible to apply through GEMSAS based on my GAMSAT Results?

Applicants are responsible for determining their eligibility to apply to GEMSAS. You can evaluate your standing in relation to other candidates who sat the GAMSAT in the same year as you did by consulting the chart included with your GAMSAT Statement of Results. When deciding whether to submit a GEMSAS application, compare the GAMSAT results received against acceptable scores for each GEMSAS Medical School and ensure that they fall within the acceptable ranges.

The table below shows how Medical School’s use the GAMSAT results. Please see the individual Medical School entries to confirm their minimum GAMSAT score requirements and use this information to decide which Medical Schools to preference in your GEMSAS application.
