GAMSAT
What is the GAMSAT?
The Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) is a computer-based assessment developed by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) in collaboration with GEMPASS Australia Limited.
A current GAMSAT score is required for most applicants seeking Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) and other domestic places in graduate-entry medicine courses.*
*Some entry schemes and pathways do not require a GAMSAT score. Check the relevant medical school entries in the Medical Schools Admissions Guide to confirm requirements.
Which GAMSAT results can I use?
GAMSAT results are valid for four years and can be used for applications across multiple admission cycles.
- Results from different sittings are directly comparable
- You can use your results for up to four consecutive years after the test date
For example, if you sit the GAMSAT in September 2025, you can use these results for applications submitted in 2026-2029, for courses commencing in 2027-2030.
GAMSAT sittings are held twice a year, in March and September.
- Results from the September sitting in the year of application cannot be used for that intake.
Refer to the GAMSAT Results webpage and the table below for details on valid results for each intake year.

Am I eligible to apply based on my GAMSAT results?
You are responsible for assessing whether your GAMSAT results meet the requirements for your chosen medical schools.
When deciding on whether to apply:
- Compare your scores against acceptable scores for each GEMSAS Medical School, ensuring they fall within the acceptable ranges
- Use the chart included with your GAMSAT Statement of Results to understand how your performance compares to other candidates
The table below outlines how medical schools use GAMSAT results. You should also review the individual medical school entries in the Medical Schools Admissions Guide to confirm minimum score requiremetns and decide which schools to include in your preferences.
