Completing your application
There are ten Medical Schools in GEMPASS Australia. Applicants may nominate up to six preferences.
When deciding which Medical School’s to select (i.e., preference), applicants should consider:
- We would encourage you to research the Medical Schools you are interested in applying for and consider information such as location, entry requirements and selection criteria when making your decision. Please ensure to read the Medical School information available on the Medicine Admissions Guide and the detailed information from the Medical Schools websites to ensure you are fully informed before submitting your application.
- There are significant differences in entry requirements between the Medical Schools. You might find that you have a much better chance of gaining admission to one Medical School over another. Please ensure you make your selections with care. Once preferences are entered and your application submitted, you will not be able to change them. Subsequent transfers between Medical Schools are unlikely to be approved.
- You are advised to put only medical schools and types of places that you are prepared to accept.. If you are offered a place and you decline it, or if you allow your offer to lapse, then your application will be withdrawn from further processing and you will not receive another offer in the current offer period.
A USI is a reference number made up of ten numbers and letters. It creates an online record of your nationally recognised training and qualifications attained in Australia. It is a mandatory requirement to provide your USI number in the application. For more information see http://www.usi.gov.au/
After completing the Application Form you will need to formally submit your application. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email from GEMSAS confirming your application has been submitted. You will then be taken to the payment system to make your payment. Once your payment has been made successfully you will be shown a receipt screen, and you will receive an email from GEMSAS.
If you do not receive either email, please log into your GEMSAS Account and check your My Emails page. If the successful submission and payment emails are not visible, please email
If you have previously applied through GEMSAS, you are still required to register anew online and complete and submit a new application.
Very Important: If there has been no change to your education history and you applied through GEMSAS within the last two years you do not need to provide GEMSAS with your academic documents again. You will be contacted should GEMSAS require any further academic documentation.
If you previously applied for Deakin Adjustments and were successful in the past two years, you do not need to provide GEMSAS with this information again. Please ensure you note this in your GEMSAS application. Please see the Deakin Medical School entry in the Medicine Admissions Guide for further information.
You pay a single fee of $270 and this covers up to six preferences.
If you are currently studying a program and intend on taking an Early Exit or Alternative Award at the end of the year, you must declare this in your application. You should select the actual year you are due to complete your study, list that the completion status is “I am currently studying, but will not complete the qualification this year” and complete the early exit question that will generate.
If after you submit your application you realise you did not claim this information, or you decide you will be taking an early exit, you must inform GEMSAS (
Examples of combined programs that could lead to an early exit are:
- Bachelor/Bachelor
- Bachelor/Master
- Bachelor/Postgraduate Diploma
- Bachelor with Embedded Honours
For example, if you are currently studying a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts and at the end of the year plan to complete and be awarded the Bachelor of Science, this should be declared as an early exit on your application. Similarly, if you are currently studying a Bachelor/Masters program, and plan on taking an early exit to be awarded the single Bachelor degree then this should also be declared.
Per the policy outlined in the Medicine Admissions Guide, all tertiary study must be declared (including completed and incomplete study), whether relevant or not to your qualifying/key degree.
Failure to claim all tertiary study may result in further action, including the cancelation of an application for admission, withdrawal of an offer of admission, or cancellation of an enrolment.
From the 2026 intake, applicants can apply for the Deakin RTS Tier 1 directly through the GEMSAS application portal. Applicants are no longer required to contact
A GAMSAT result is required to be considered for most GEMSAS Medicine courses/programs. For specific details, see each Medical School’s entry in the Medicine Admissions Guide.
However, a GAMSAT result is not required for:
- Applicants to Tier 1 of Deakin University’s Rural Training Stream; or
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants to Griffith University and/or the University of Queensland
If you meet either of the above criteria, but are also applying for additional courses through GEMSAS, you must however provide a valid GAMSAT ID.
